“He had his whole future ahead of him”: Identity of young man who p:ɑssed away in Antrim crɑsh on Easter Sunday revealed, as police release final heartbreaking details about the ‘lovable’ teen who had just started his business career
A YOUNG man who died following a crash in Antrim has been named locally as Fionn Brannigan.
The incident occurred shortly before 1am on Easter Sunday on the Castlecat Road in Dervock.
The 20-year-old reportedly passed away in hospital following the single-vehicle collision.
Tragically, it is understood Mr Brannigan had just launched his own electrical business.
Tributes for the young man have since poured in.
Speaking to The Irish News, Downpatrick area councillor Conor Galbraith said he grew up with Mr Brannigan’s mother and knew the family well.
He said: “I grew up with Leanne. She is a lovely, fun-loving person. She loves concerts, loves the craic. The whole family circle is lovely.
“Fionn had just started his own business. It is tragic, off the back of Easter too.
“It will never be the same. I want to offer my condolences and to encourage other young road users to stay safe.”
Many others took to social media to express their condolences for the young man and his family.
One person wrote: “I am just absolutely heartbroken for you all. Fionn was the loveliest young man. God bless you all.”
Another said: “Absolutely heart broken. Fionn can’t believe it. Such a lovely lad. Thinking of Leanne, Philly and Lucy at this sad time.”
Funeral details have now been disclosed.
Fionn is remembered by his parents, Leanne and Philip, his sister Lucy, grandparents, cousins and wider family circle.
His remains will leave his grandmother’s home on Wednesday at 10.45am.
They will arrive at Mary Mother of the Church, Saintfield, for 12 noon Requiem Mass, with burial afterwards in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Kilcairn, Carrickmannon.
The family have asked for flowers only, with donations if desired, sent to Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland.
The family have requested that the house be strictly private.
